DAILY FILE – Barring last minute change of National Assembly election results across the seven local government areas of Benue state zone B, former governor of the state, Senator George Akume of All Progressive Congress,APC, faces imminent defeat for his fourth term.
Akume’s main challenger, Hon.Orkev Jev, the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has taken over Gboko local government as the field results in many polling units across Makurdi, Guma, Gwer West,Gwer East, Buruku council areas heading towards PDP candidate. Though, Akume, may win his local government,Tarkaa.
DAILY FILE, gathered that Akume’s problem started when he openly denied that suspected herdsmen were not the ones killing Benue farmers. Also, his support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s APC government against the wishes of Benue people was one of the factors responsible for his looming defeat.
Akume, after spending eight years as Benue state governor from 1999 to 2007 was elected as senator to represent zone B at the National Assembly in 2007 and has spent twelve years.
