DAILY FILE – The body of Aljazera Newspaper Correspondent in Benue State, Abraham Uwuasom, was laid to rest in Guma local government area, Benue state with governor Samuel Ortom pleading to assist in raising the two children left behind.
The governor in a funeral oration through the former National Legal Advisor of the People’s Democratic Party, Barr. David Iorhemba, described the demise of Uwuasom as a great loss not only to his immediate family but journalism and Benue State in general.
The governor who had released undisclosed amount for burial arrangement of the deceased assured to care of the deceased’s children school fees.
Ortom, however, urged the family to accept his dead as a will of God.
In his speech, Benue state governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Comrade Richard Gbawuan, whom Uwuasom was working as Director of Media, described him as workaholic, detribalize and innovative whose ideals would be greatly missed.
The representative of the management of Aljazera Newspaper, Mr. Jonathan Ipaa, said the news of Uwuasom’s death was received with shock and donated a package for the upkeep of the children he left behind.
According to Ipaa, Uwuasom was one of the State Correspondents whose reports were published unedited due to his experience in the field as the vacuum he left would be difficult to fill.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Benue State Council, Comrade Kajo Martins, challenged elders from the community to pray to their ancestors to stop the death of young ones in the area, stating that Uwuasom was his personal friend.
Abraham Uwuasom,37, died when he was knocked down by a tipper opposite in Makurdi the state capital and left behind two children.
