DAILY FILE – Determined to consolidate on its performance in the prosecution of criminal offences in Kaduna State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has pledged to redouble its efforts in this year.
Alhaji Modu Bunu, the State Commandant declared this while speaking on the performance of the command particularly as it relates to the
prosecution of criminal offences last year.
Statistics on the prosecution of criminal offences indicate that a total of 32 criminal cases were charged to court last year, Bunu said.
ASC Orndiir Terzungwe,State Public Relations officer, in a statement for the State Commandant,said out of the number, the command secured 11 convictions resulting in different jail terms for offenders, 18 cases are still pending in different courts while three are taken over by the State Ministry of Justice.
A breakdown of the offences reveals that some had to do with criminal conspiracy and theft, abetment, possession of stolen items, rape, defilement of child and incest.
Others were cheating, impersonation, dishonestly receiving stolen property, burglary, cruelty to person and criminal breach of trust.
The commandant, who expressed delight on the development, attributed the feat to the training of the command’s prosecutors three years ago when State Ministry of Justice granted FIAT to the command.
Bunu, recalled that since then, the corps has been legally repositioned in the state to arrest, investigate and prosecute state offences, noting with satisfaction that the command is performing remarkably.
