DAILY FILE, ABUJA – Nigerians have taken over social media to bid farewell to Nigeria’s first executive President ,Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died at the National Hospital,Abuja friday evening.
Millions of social media users within and outside the country have paid their tributes, praying God to grant late Shehu Shagari eternal rest and peace.
Meanwhile, Governor of Sokoto State, Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has mourned the death of the first Executive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, GCON, Turakin Sokoto.
Alhaji Shehu Shagari passed away at the National Hospital, Abuja at the age of 93,he was a Minister in the First Republic and during the administration of General Yakubu Gowon
In a statement by Abubakar Shekara,
Director General, Media and Public Affairs to the Sokoto State Governor, said Nigeria during the Presidency of Shehu Shagari from 1979 to 1983 played a front line role in the emancipation of Zimbabwe and the anti apartheid struggle in South Africa.
The statement reads”His administration witnessed the advancement of Nigeria socially and economically, setting the pace for the industrialization of the nation, particularly through the establishment of the Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill.
Alhaji Shehu Shagari was a national and international statesman, who made unparalleled contribution to the development of education, as a teacher at basic level and President of Nigeria.
He is survived by several children, grand children and great grand children.
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal condoles the family of Shehu Shagari, people of Sokoto State and Nigeria as a whole over this great loss and prays Allah to grant him eternal bliss”
