DAILY FILE – David Lyon, candidate of the the All Progressives Congress (APC), has won the Bayelsa governorship election.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan is from Bayelsa state. It gathered that, the internal crisis as a result of imposition of the governorship candidate by the outing going governor Dickson caused PDP defeat.
Lyon defeated Douye Diri, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in six out of eight locals government areas in the state.
The APC polled 352,552 while PDP has 143, 170 votes, leaving a margin of 209, 382.
Lyon’s victory makes it the first time an opposition party is winning the state since the return of democracy in 1999.
The state, which was created in 1996, has always been governed by the PDP.
