DAILY FILE – Facts emerged that Adamawa state governor, Bindo Jubril, working against his ex-godfather,Atiku Abubakar in the just concluded presidential election was one of the factors that contributed to the governor’s defeat.
Many from Adamawa reported that, Atiku’s factor played a major role in sacking the incumbent governor whom he handpicked during his days with APC in 2015. Again,Atiku reported to have single-handedly influenced the choice of the PDP guber candidate,Ahmadu Fintiri, now governor-elect, to replace Governor Bindo who refused to follow him to PDP.
Political pundits also observed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife Aisha also worked against Bindo’s re-election.
Dr. Mahmoud Halilu, a brother to First Lady Aisha Buhari, had contested the governorship race but was defeated to the incumbent governor during the All Progressive Congress, APC, governorship primary. Few days after the primaries, Aisha Buhari, attacked APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, for allowing impunity to reign in the party.
It further gathered that since then,Mahmoud, popularly called Modi, who relied on powerful forces from Abuja has been working at the background with others APC chieftains in the state to unseat Governor Jibrilla Bindow, who is from Adamawa North Senatorial District.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ahmadu Fintiri, has been declared winner of the Adamawa State governorship election.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Andrew Haruna, declared the result on Friday morning in Yola after the supplementary election in 44 polling units across 14 local government areas of the state.
