DAILY FILE – Suspected herdsmen on Wednesday, launched attack on Ebete community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue state killing seventeen residents.
Governor Samuel Ortom who condemned the fresh attack alleged that it was a plot to destabilise voters ahead of the rescheduled Saturday elections.
The Governor who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Terver Akase, described the attack as unfortunate and capable of disorganising residents who may participate in the forthcoming polls.
He stated that the attack had further given credence to allegations that some selfish politicians were mobilising herders to destabilise the State for political gains, saying such was regrettable.
The Governor who had raised alarm about grand plans by some politicians to cause crisis and to go ahead to make some pronouncements concerning the election in the state, said If that is really the aim of the attack, then it is unfortunate and unthinkable.
Suspected herdsmen at about 4am Wednesday killed seventeen persons and injured twelve others at Ebete in Agatu local government area of Benue State.
Some of the victims who survived the attack, said the suspected herders crossed from Nasarawa State into the Agatu side of Benue to carry out the action.
According to the victims, the attack was unprovoked.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police Benue police command, Mr. Omololu Bishi, declined comments.
