DAILY FILE – Many people reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries in Gbajimba,the headquarters of Guma local government area,Benue state, on Friday,in a clash between supporters of All Progressives Congress, APC, and People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Gbajimba,is the hometown of Benue state Governor,Dr. Samuel Ortom.
Both sides have been pointing accusing fingers at each other over the clash that occurred in the area. Though, unconfirmed report said one killed.
Some of the Ortom’s supporters on social media claimed, the APC governorship candidate, Emmanuel Jime’s supporters destroyed the campaign billboards of the governor and PDP when the opposition candidates visited Gbajimba for campaign today.
Although, no official statement from the ruling PDP in the state yet.
However,Sen. Jack Tilley-Gyado,Director General, Jime/Ode Campaign Organisation, in a statement explained that: “The All Progressives Congress Governorship campaign organization in Benue state wish to inform members of the public especially, her supporters in Guma LG, Benue that it’s campaign rally currently ongoing in Gbajimba the LG headquarters today Friday, 1st February 2019 has been put off”
“This is due to the insecurity situation arising from the violent disruption of activities at the campaign ground this afternoon in Gbajimba by gunshots which we strongly suspect is the handiwork of militia sponsored by the PDP in Benue state”
The statement added “The public and particularly supporters of the APC are enjoined to be calm and peaceful and await further information.
“It should be noted that Gbajimba, the headquarters of Guma L G is the home town and village of Samuel Ortom, the Governor of Benue state.
The matter has already been reported to the relevant security agencies” it stated.
