DAILY FILE – Strong indications have emerged that, the United States Of America,U.S.A, United Kingdom,UK and other world powers will mount serious pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over the postponemement of the general elections.
Some of the foreign observers who pleaded anonimty told DAILY FILE in Abuja,that just like the pressure mounted on former President Goodluck Jonathan when he postponed the 2015 polls, the international community is considering doing same to Buhari and INEC for credible elections to hold as rescheduled.
According to one of the observers “There will be pressure on the leadersship of Nigeria government and INEC. The elections must hold as rescheduled by the INEC”
Recall that, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had Friday night postponed the presidential and National Assembly elections from February 16 to February 23, 2019, while the governorship and State Assembly elections and the Federal Capital Territory elections had been postponed from March 2nd to 9th, 2019.
INEC cited logistics challenges and in order to ensure that the exercise runs smoothly.
Already, anger and frustration have taken over the social media by voters who are expressing shock on the postponement, calling for the resignation of the INEC chairman, Prof.Mahmood Yakubu.
Former Vice president Atiku Abubakar and the opposition’s presidential candidate, had in a statement called for calm amidst provocations adding that Nigerians should not be discouraged but come out in mass and vote candidates of their choice next week Saturday.
The ruling party,All Progressive Congress,APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have traded blame over the elections shift.
