DAILY FILE – Reports say Benue Pensioners have slept Wednesday night in the rain at the entrance to Government House, Makurdi, demanding the payment of their 25 months pension arrears and gratuities.
Though, efforts to get reaction from the Benue state government’s side over the claims were not successful.
However, our correspondent gathered that, the pensioners after their peaceful protest on Wednesday which terminated at the seat of power’s gate vowed to continue sleeping on the floor until Governor Samuel Ortom pays what belong to them.
It was not clear whether their claim of non payment was true, but a source explained that pensioners were owed only few months:” The 25 months non payment of arrears and gratuity is not true, although they are owed”
Meanwhile, some of governor Ortom and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s loyalists in Benue accused the opposition All Progressives Congress,APC, members of creating bad blood between the state government and and pensioners.
