DAILY FILE – Former governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has called on leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, at all levels to give youths a chance in the building process of the party.
Makarfi, who stated this when members of the Kaduna State PDP Like Minds paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna, emphasized the need for PDP leaders to give youths more opportunity to contribute their quota in resuscitating the party and eventual taking over of the leadership as they plan towards subsequent elections.
Mock Samuel Kure, Director, Media and Publicity PDP Like-Minds, Kaduna State in a statement quoted Makarfi as saying: “Politicking is about forming government. If you won’t form government, why suffer yourself?”
Makarfi urged stakeholders of the party in the state to be focused in building the party rather than focusing on contest which is still far away:”you can only win election on a strong party platform.”
“I will rather be a member of winning party than a candidate of a dead party.” He said
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the group, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan’inna, explained that the group was formed as a result of political development in the state.
Dan’inna commended the party leader for the role he played to increase the party performance in the last general elections, relative to what was obtainable in 2015 which is evident in the quantum of votes the party garnered in the last general elections.
He further said: “The group has set up a committee to look into what transpired before, during and after the 2019 general election leading to electoral robbery of our mandates that was freely given by the electorate in the state.”
The statement however, said other speakers in the meeting urged the leader of the party to ensure that consensus is built amongst the stakeholders of the party at the state level and beyond.
